Blake was badly abused while on the streets of Romania. He was found there by a lady after he had been hanged with barbed wire. She took him to a vet where where his injuries were treated, but the wire caused irreversible damage to his trachea and Blake can only 'air bark'. As there were no shelters who could keep him, he was returned to the village where he'd been found. He was then beaten severely and his tail was broken.
When he came to us on 14 February 2021, he was untouchable, quiet. An escape artist of the highest degree; aloof. We left Blake to decompress for a few weeks and he rather liked another dog in our care, so they started sharing a kennel together.
Day by day and very slowly, we began to chip away at the wall of utter despair Blake had built around himself. Month after month we made progress - Blake would take treats, enjoy a stoke, sit with us.
Not once did Blake ever show a flicker of aggression. Quite remarkable considering his past.
It took 10 patient months to rehabilitate Blake and he went to his forever home in December 2021, where he is living the life he so deserves.
